We are a family of 5 Aussies, Rob and Karen met in 1990 at a romantic venue, the local Hungry Jacks (Burger King) as teenagers and were married 3 years later. We spent around 10 years in Sydney, then moved back to Brisbane with two boys, and purchased a house without viewing it personally. We went on to buy and sell another few houses and the last house we lived in for around 7 years.
Daniel is our eldest boy, Jonathan in the middle and Sarah our girl. All the kids went to the local public school near us in Brisbane, and we chose the house we lived in for Jonathan to have easy access to the special school as he is Autistic. The impact on the other two for schooling was a large learning curve for us as parents as we lived in a low socio-economic area of town. Amazing salt-of-the-earth people, but also a fair few school bullies and such.
Coming to NZ we chose a school first, for Daniel and Sarah, and sorted through the schooling system for Jonathan, then chose housing... and again bought a house without seeing it personally. We had Grandma (Rob's Mum) come with us for the first while to help us settle in, and stayed with Nanna (Karen's Mum) for the last few weeks in Australia between houses, furniture and shipping containers.
We have our extended family all back in Australia, and hopefully they will come to NZ for holidays as well as us going back for visits.
